No. 22 Stanford Rolls Past Pac-10 Foe Oregon, 83-61

STANFORD, Calif. -- Arthur Lee scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half as number 22 Stanford used an 18-0 run to build an early lead and cruise to an 83-61 victory over Oregon in the Pac-10 Conference.

Brevin Knight added 16 points and eight assists, while Peter Sauer had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinal (15-6, 8-5 Pac-10), who won their second straight after a three-game losing streak.

"We're not dead yet," said Stanford coach Mike Montgomery. "Our guys are playing hard and now we need to do that on the road."

Oregon (14-8, 5-8) got 24 points from Kenya Wilkins, but he was the only Duck in double figures. Kyle Milling added eight rebounds for Oregon, which lost its fourth straight road game and fell to 39-65 all-time against Stanford.

"This was probably as rough a game that I have ever been involved with in my 28 years," said Oregon coach Jerry Green.

Kris Weems contributed 15 points for the Cardinal, who held a 39-29 halftime lead and never looked back in improving to 8-0 at Maples Pavilion this season. The Cardinal are 45-7 at Maples over the past four seasons.

Oregon took its last lead, 8-6, when Rob Ramaker hit a three-pointer with 16:08 left in the first half, but Stanford scored the next 18 points, including seven by Weems and six by Knight.

"All three of their guards did a great job of penetrating," Green said. "But it all started with Knight, he is just a great athlete. I am glad he is graduating."

Lee had four points and Mark Madsen the other in the burst, which left the Cardinal with a 24-8 cushion with 10:32 remaining. The lead was Stanford's biggest of the half.

The Cardinal shot 47 percent (30-of-64) from the field, but pulled away by hitting 62 percent of their shots (16-of-26) in the second half. Oregon made just 41 percent (24-of-58) of its shots.

"I thought the key tonight was that we played good defense," Montgomery said. "Our kids played real hard on defense."

In the second half, Wilkins made a running nine-footer to get the Ducks within 44-32, but Lee and Knight hit driving layups before a three-pointer by Weems increased the lead to 19 with 17:04 remaining.

"Kenya Wilkins hurt us," Montgomery said. "I think he had to shoot the ball more than they wanted him to do under their scheme of things. But he is a great athlete."

Stanford led by as many as 26 after Madsen's layup made it 83-57 with 50 seconds left.

"In the second half, they came out and shot the ball real well from the corners," Green said. "They rebounded well and we did not."

Madsen added eight points and 10 rebounds off the bench for Stanford, which got 18 points from its reserves. The Cardinal made eight of their 20 three-point attempts, including 3-of-6 by Weems. Lee was just 1-of-7 from behind the arc, but hit 6-of-10 inside the line.
