Wisconsin Blanks Stanford, 14-0
Mike Samuel threw for one touchdown and ran for the other as Wisconsin topped Stanford, 14-0, for its third win in as many games.
Donald Hayes made a spectacular grab of Samuel's pass as he was being hit by Stanford defenders to open the scoring in the second quarter. Samuel plunged into the end zone from one yard out to seal the win in the fourth quarter.
Wisconsin's offense never really got rolling, gaining just 101 yards on 38 carries, but the defense, ranked 16th nationally against the rush, stopped Stanford's West Coast offense.
Stanford (1-2) was only able to muster 50 yards rushing on 31 carries and Chad Hutchinson was sacked five times. Hutchinson completed 18-of-35 passes for 161 yards, but was intercepted twice.
