Oregon State Upsets Cardinal, 26-12
David Moran threw for a touchdown and ran for another as OregonState snapped a 15-game losing streak with a 26-12 Pac-10Conference victory over Stanford.
The Beavers (1-5, 1-3 Pac-10), who had the longest losing streakin Division I-A, won for the first time since a 14-7 victoryover Idaho in the first week of the 1995 season. They alsosnapped a 12-game conference losing streak.
It was Oregon State's first victory over a Pac-10 foe since a21-3 victory over Washington State on November 12th, 1994. Thelongest losing streak in Division I-A now belongs to UNLV, whichhas dropped 10 in a row.
Moran's 17-yard touchdown pass to DeShawn Williams snapped a tieand gave Oregon State a 19-12 lead with 1:28 to play in thefirst half. After a scoreless third quarter, Darron Kirkmanscampered 28 yards with 4:27 to play to cap the scoring.
Stanford (2-4, 1-2) had taken a 7-6 lead on Chad Hutchinson's57-yard TD pass to Mike Mitchell 43 seconds into the secondquarter. The Beavers went up 12-7 on Moran's three-yard run,but Tim Smith intercepted Moran's pass attempt on a two-pointconversion and raced 100 yards to make it 12-9.
Stanford's Kevin Miller then kicked a 36-yard field goal toforge a 12-12 tie with 2:28 left in the first half.
