Hutchinson Paces Cardinal Past Washington State, 33-17
Chad Hutchinson found Damon Dunn on a 58-yard touchdown passearly in the second half to lead Stanford to a 33-17 Pac-10victory over Washington State.
Hutchinson completed 15-of-22 passes for 206 yards and aninterception for the Cardinal (5-5, 4-3 Pac-10), who were down14 points early in the second quarter. Stanford leads theall-time series 27-19-1 and has won the last five games.
Ryan Leaf passed for 250 yards and two interceptions, going18-for-38 for Washington State (5-5, 3-4). Receiver David Knuffcaught eight passes for 102 yards and a touchdown.
Leaf and Knuff opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown at6:47 of the opening quarter. Michael Black's eight-yard scoringrun made it 14-0 just over 2 1/2 minutes into the second period.Black rushed for 68 yards on 18 carries.
The Cardinal tied it 14-14 when Jonn Ritchie scampered threeyards for a touchdown and Troy Walters returned a punt 75 yardsfor a score.
Washington State's Tony Truant and Stanford's Kevin Millerexchanged field goals after the Hutchinson-to-Dunn touchdown andGreg Comella added a one-yard scoring plunge. Jon Haskinscaught Leaf in the end zone for a safety to close the scoring.
