Share: Some say that Bob Murphy's passion is Stanford. That would be understating it. His passion is golf -- his life is Stanford. Murphy's love affair for Stanford began the day he was born in Stanford Hospital in 1931.
Murphy set to call final Big Game Saturday

The "Voice of Stanford" will call his last game this Saturday when the Cardinal takes on Cal in this year's much-anticipated Big Game. Bob Murphy '53, who has been calling Stanford football games since 1964, will retire from his position after this weekend's game Murphy's connection to the University started as early as it possibly could have: he was born at Stanford Hospital and grew up in nearby Burlingame.

Stanford broadcaster Bob Murphy will call the final game of his 43-year career at Saturday's Big Game. Murphy, a 1953 Stanford graduate and member of the Stanford sports Hall of Fame, has been the on-air voice for football and men's basketball games since Bay Area broadcaster Don Klein convinced him to sit behind the mic at the Stanford-Notre Dame game in the fall of 1964.
