Brook Lopez Named Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Sophomore Brook Lopez (Fresno, Calif.) of the Stanford men's basketball team has been selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 15-22.

Sophomore Brook Lopez (Fresno, Calif./San Joaquin Memorial HS) of the Stanford men’s basketball team has been selected as the Stanford/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 15-22. Lopez has now claimed the award two straight weeks, also earning the honor for the week of Jan. 7-14.

Lopez averaged a double-double (19.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg) for the week, guiding Stanford to a home sweep of the Arizona schools. On Jan. 17 in a 56-52 victory against Arizona, he scored a game-high 19 points on 7-15 shooting to go along with six rebounds, five blocks and a 5-5 mark from the free throw line.

Two days later in a 67-52 win over No. 22/25 Arizona State, Lopez notched his second double-double of the year with 19 points and 16 boards in 27 minutes.

For his efforts, Lopez was also named Rivals.com National Player of the Week.

In nine games played, Lopez currently leads the Cardinal in scoring (17.2 ppg) and rebounding (8.3 rpg) while shooting 46.7-percent from the field and 75.4-percent from the foul line.

No. 20/21 Stanford (15-3, 4-2 Pac-10) travels to California (11-6, 2-4 Pac-10) in its only contest this week.
