1941-42 NCAA Championship Team

Stanford, coached by Everett Dean, captured the national title behind a pair of All-Americans, Jim Pollard and NCAA tournament MVP Howie Dallmar. Stanford defeated Rice Institute, 53-47, and then handed Colorado a 46-35 defeat to reach the final. Stanford won 53-38, as Dallmar scored 15 points and Jack Dana came off the bench to add 14. Pollard was ill and did not play in the championship game. The game wasn't even broadcast live back to the Bay Area, but, instead, was recreated from wire reports by KSFO. The gate gross for the five nights of basketball in Kansas City was $23,500. Expenses, mostly for travel, were about $22,000. Of the remaining $1,500, half went to the NCAA. The other $750 was split eight ways among the eastern and western tourney teams. In the end, Stanford's share of the NCAA pot was $93.75.
