Women's Soccer Beats Cal, 3-1
STANFORD, Calif. -- The Stanford women' soccer team defeated California, 3-1 today in Pac-10 match at Harry Maloney Field on the campus of Stanford University. Stanford improves to 5-7-0 overall, 1-2 in conference play while California falls to 5-7-1 on the season, 0-3 in the Pac-10.

Courtney Carroll of California scored at 18:01 off a direct kick to give the Bears their only lead on the match (1-0). Stanford senior captain Emily Burt scored at 20:52 off a pass from Shauna Itri to tie the match at one. Burt's second goal of the day off a pass from Celina DeLeon at 38:25 gave Stanford a 2-1 lead going into the break. Christy Stoffel scored at 64:28 to seal the 3-1 win for Stanford.
Freshman goalkeeper Carly Smolak made her second start in the net for Stanford. She allowed one goal while recording two saves. Cal goalkeeper Maite Zabala notched five saves for the Bears.
Stanford will face USF on Oct. 19 in a nonconference road match. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
