Stanford Sweeps Double-Header at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The 14th-ranked Stanford softball team swept No. 24 Oregon State in a double-header, 7-0 and 8-6, Tuesday, at the OSU Softball Complex in Corvallis, Ore. The Cardinal improved to 26-9 overall and 4-4 in the Pac-12, while the Beavers dropped to 23-11 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Senior pitcher Teagan Gerhart picked up the win in the first game, improving to 14-4. She tallied her fifth shutout of the season, giving up just three hits and a walk with six strikeouts. OSU's Marina Demore fell to 16-5 on the season.

Freshman Kelsey Stevens nabbed her 10th win of the season in game two. She struck out four batters in 5.1 innings pitched. Gerhart notched her fourth save of the season in the win. OSU's Tina Andreana dropped to 4-3 on the season.

In game one, Stanford jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior Sarah Hassman led off with a single through the left side and then advanced to second on a passed ball by OSU catcher Ally Kutz. Leah White followed with a single through the left side, and then moved into scoring position with her sixth stolen base of the season. Bonstrom brought them home with a single to left field.

Taking advantage of two OSU errors in the top of the fourth, the Cardinal increased its lead to 5-0. With the bases loaded, a throwing error by Beaver right fielder Hannah Bouka allowed senior Tegan Schmidt and freshman Kaitlin Schaberg to score. White drove in the third run with a single to centerfield.

Stanford scored its final two runs of the first game in the top of the seventh inning. Pinch hitter Corey Hanewich doubled down the left line, scoring Jenna Rich. Danielle Miller, another pinch hitter, then hit a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing home Cassandra Roulund.

In game two, Oregon State's Desiree Beltran hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Beavers the advantage on the scoreboard.

The Cardinal cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the third as Roulund hit an RBI single up the middle to score White, who doubled to lead off the inning.

Stanford took the lead in the top of the fourth inning as Rich hit a three-run double to left centerfield, plating Hanna Winter, Hassman and Bonstrom.

White drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth to score designated player Erin Ashby. Then in the sixth, Ashby reached on an error by OSU right fielder Lea Cavestany, allowing Rich to score from second. Freshman catcher Jessica Plaza pushed the Stanford lead to 7-3 with a single up the middle, bringing home Ashby.

OSU cut the lead to one, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Dani Gilmore grounded out with the bases loaded to bring home pinch runner Mollee Schwegler. Pinch hitter Bailee Niehus then drove in catcher Ally Kutz and Ya Garcia.

Stanford scored its final run of the game in the top of the seventh as Rich hit an RBI single down the left line to bring home White.

The Cardinal and Beavers will play the series finale on Wednesday, April 3. First pitch is scheduled for Noon P.T. at the OSU Softball Complex.
