GOLD RIVER, Calif. - Stanford's lightweight I Eight captured the second heat Saturday to advance to the Open Eight Grand Final at the WIRA Championships at Lake Natoma.
Sunday's Grand Final will get off at 12:20 p.m. at Lake Natoma. The Cardinal will race for the WIRA title against Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, Loyola Marymount, Seattle University and Sacramento State.
Saturday the Cardinal I Eight, ranked second in the nation, turned in a time of 6:51.5 in the second heat of the class, defeating Saint Mary's (6:59.8), Seattle University (7:06.3) and San Diego State (7:13.3). The Cardinal's time was the second-fastest of the day in the class, behind only Gonzaga's 6:43.6.
