Box Score

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 22 Stanford scored in chunks to defeat St. Mary's, 9-1, Tuesday evening at Sunken Diamond. Brant Whiting went 4-for-4 in the non-conference baseball affair to help Stanford snap a three-game skid.

Whiting added an RBI and scored one run.

Stanford (24-15) returns to action this weekend for a three-game Pac-12 Conference series at Arizona State (May 3-5).

Brenden Kalfus extended his hitting streak to 26 games with a first-inning bloop single, one of five hits for Saint Mary's (17-27).

The Gaels scored their lone run in the fourth when John Hochstatter (3-1) issued a bases-loaded walk. In 4.0 innings, Hochstatter fanned two and surrendered a pair of hits.

The Cardinal bullpen combined to blank Saint Mary's over the final 5.0 innings.

Brian Ragira turned on a fastball for a three-run homer in the first. It was his team-high eighth home run on the season.

Ragira had a game-high three RBI.

Stanford would score two more in the frame to take a 5-0 lead. The Cardinal scored 10 runs in the first inning of its first 19 non-conference games. Following a nine-run first frame last week against San Jose State, Stanford has totaled 14 first-inning runs in its last two non-conference bouts.

With no outs and no one on the pond in the third, Stanford put up four runs on four hits. Lonnie Kauppila and Justin Ringo each doubled in the frame. Austin Wilson bounced a two-RBI single to put Stanford ahead, 9-0.

Ringo and Slater scored two runs apiece.

Saint Mary's starter Kelsey Outram (1-6) did not record an out in the first inning. Outram allowed five earned runs on one hit to take the loss.

The Gaels allowed nine Cardinal hits.
