USA Basketball release and roster

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford women's basketball point guard Amber Orrange was among the 31 players to accept an invitation to participate in the 2013 USA Basketball World University Games Team trials May 16-19 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The 2013 World University Games will take place July 8-15 in Kazan, Russia. Oklahoma's Sherri Coale takes the reins as head coach of the U.S. team and will be assisted by Brian Giorgis (Marist) and Coquese Washington (Penn State). Former Stanford standout and assistant coach Bobbie Kelsey, currently the head coach at Wisconsin, will serve as one of three court coaches along with Matt Corkery (American) and Matilda Mossman (Tulsa).

The announcement marks Orrange's second invite to a USA Basketball team camp. Her previous appearance came in 2010 at the USA Basketball U18 National Team trials ahead of the FIBA U18 Americas Championship. She is one of four Pac-12 players named to next week's trials roster along with California's Gennifer Brandon and ReShanda Gray, and USC's Cassie Harberts.

The sophomore from Houston earned her first nod to the All-Pac-12 Team in 2012-13, following up a Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honorable mention campaign by averaging 10.8 points per game along with 4.08 assists per game (fourth in the Pac-12) with a 1.60 assist-to-turnover ratio (second in the Pac-12). Orrange played all 36 games last season, starting 35 and quarterbacking a Cardinal offense that led the Pac-12 in scoring margin (+18.6), field-goal percentage (45.5) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.17) in addition to being second in scoring (70.5 ppg), 3-point field-goal percentage (31.9) and assists (13.94 apg).

This past season Orrange scored in double-digits 23 times and passed out at least five assists on 15 occasions in guiding the Cardinal to its 13th straight Pac-12 regular-season title. Her top moment of the year came in the Pac-12 Tournament Championship Game March 10 when she scored a career-high 20 points, including the game-winning layup with 8.3 seconds left, in Stanford's 51-49 victory over UCLA. She would go on to average 14.0 points and 3.33 assists over Stanford's run to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

The 12-player roster is expected to be announced the morning of May 19. The team is scheduled to regroup for training in Colorado Springs June 25-July 1.
