Stanford Evens the Series with Arizona

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 13 Cardinal softball team edged Arizona, 2-0 to even the series, Friday, at Smith Family Stadium. The win puts Stanford at 37-18 overall and 13-10 in Pac-12 play. Arizona drops to 31-24 overall and 8-15 in the conference.

In a pitcher's duel, Cardinal rookie Kelsey Stevens recorded her 10th complete game and seventh shutout of the season, allowing only five hits while striking out six batters. She is now 15-7 on the season. Arizona's Nancy Bowling (4-6) took the loss, giving up two runs on three hits in 3.2 innings.

Stanford registered four hits in the game including a pair of long balls. Freshman first baseman Kayla Bonstrom hit in the first run of the game with a solo home run. Sophomore right fielder Cassandra Roulund added two hits, including another solo shot to bring the second and final run across.

Sophomore third baseman Hanna Winter recorded a bunt single as well.

Arizona threatened in the top of the seventh inning, as Brigette Del Ponte and Alex Lavine reached base with a pair of hits. Stevens was able to get out of the jam when Hallie Wilson flied out to center field to end the game.

The Cardinal will go for its fifth Pac-12 series win, facing the Wildcats in a rubber game on Saturday, May 11. The game will feature Senior Day celebrations with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
