Stanford Remains Unbeaten In Spring Play

May 14, 2013

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford men's soccer made it five-for-five in its spring season this past Saturday night, registering a 2-1 win over UC Davis at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.

The Cardinal breaks from intercollegiate competition next weekend, instead welcoming its alumni back to The Farm for the annual Alumni Match Saturday, May 18. Cardinal fans can see photos from past teams posted on the Stanford Men's Soccer Facebook page.

For the spring the Cardinal has now outscored its opponents by a 17-2 margin. Stanford scored a pair of first-half goals set up by corner kicks Saturday and steeled itself defensively to come out with the win after UC Davis cut the lead to one with 20 minutes to play.

The opening goal came from Brandon Vincent, who rose above the pack and got his head on a corner, flicking home for the early 1-0 lead. With 13 minutes to go before halftime, the Cardinal set up for another corner kick. This time, the initial service was cleared out, but the Cardinal sent the ball right back into the box where JJ Koval one-timed into the net from the middle of the scrum.

Late in the second half the Cardinal conceded just its second goal of the spring campaign, but the back line would dig in and deny the Aggies over the final 20 minutes.

Following this Saturday's Alumni Match, Stanford plays its spring finale Friday, May 24 at 7 p.m. at Santa Clara.
