NCAA Singles, Doubles Competition Rolls On

URBANA, Ill.- Nicole Gibbs and Krista Hardebeck both extended their stays at the NCAA Singles Championship, winning second-round matches on Thursday and earning All-America status in the process.

The defending NCAA Singles champion, Gibbs defeated Michigan's Ronit Yurovsky 6-4, 6-4 while Hardebeck rallied for a 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory over VCU's Cindy Chala.

Gibbs is bidding to become Stanford's first repeat champion since Amber Liu in 2003-04.

In each of Hardebeck's last four wins, she has dropped the first set before winning the next two.

Meanwhile in doubles, both Cardinal doubles teams were eliminated. Ahn and Gibbs were upset by Tulsa's Isaura Enrique and Samantha Vickers 6-2, 6-4 while Stacey Tan and Ellen Tsay fell short against Florida's Lauren Embree and Sofie Oyen 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
