IOWA CITY, Iowa – Clemence Couteau scored the game’s only goal as No. 10 Stanford earned its second consecutive shutout and fourth straight victory Saturday, defeating Central Michigan, 1-0.
Stanford (4-1, 0-0 NorPac) held advantages in shots (23-3) and penalty corners (13-4) but was unable to get on the board until Couteau netted the game-winner on Stanford’s 20th shot at 45:07. It was Couteau’s second consecutive game-winner after scoring the go-ahead goal last Sunday against VCU. Couteau has two game-winning goals on four career shots.
Central Michigan’s (2-4, 0-0 Mid-American) Sadie Reynolds was a major factor in keeping the Cardinal off the board and the Chippewas within striking distance, making 14 saves in net, including nine in the first half.
Not to be outdone, Stanford earned its second shutout in as many games and has not allowed a goal in 208:39. The Cardinal last allowed a goal on Sept. 6 at 1:21 against No. 20 New Hampshire.
Dulcie Davies made two saves en route to her second shutout of the year and ninth of her career.
Stanford will take on No. 8 Iowa on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Digital Network and live stats will be available via gostanford.com.
