The honor is the first of Verloo’s career and second of the season for the women’s soccer team, following Taylor Uhl’s award on Sept. 10.
Verloo earned her first collegiate hat trick to account for all the Stanford goals in a 3-2 double overtime victory over No. 22 Santa Clara on Sunday night in a match televised by ESPNU. After scoring on a swerving 30-yard free kick only 1:20 into the match, Verloo tied it, 2-2, on a penalty kick with 54 seconds left in regulation.
The Tualatin, Ore., native netted the winner on a 22-yard free kick that snuck inside the post in the 108th minute for the golden goal. It was Verloo’s fifth goal of the season.
On Thursday, Verloo had two assists in Stanford’s 5-0 victory over visiting Saint Mary’s to earn her 100th victory as a member of the team. Her career record now stands at 101-4-5.
Verloo and the Cardinal opens Pac-12 Conference play on Saturday at Colorado (noon PT).
Also nominated: Alex Bowen (Men’s Water Polo), Alex McCawley (Field Hockey), Eric Verso (Men’s Soccer), Carly Wopat (Women’s Volleyball).
