Stanford Downs Great Danes

ALBANY, N.Y. - Dulcie Davies made a career-best 16 saves and No. 6 Stanford scored twice in 29 seconds to earn a 2-1 victory Sunday at No. 11 Albany.

Kasey Quon tapped in a rebound off a penalty corner in the 38th minute to give Stanford (7-2, 1-0 NorPac) a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Less than half a minute later, Jessica Chisholm added a second goal for the Cardinal, finding the net on a deflection off a long feed from outside the circle.

Albany's (9-1, 0-0) Paula Heuser scored 44 seconds after Chisholm at 38:46 to cut Stanford's lead in half. However, the Cardinal defense held strong and kept Albany off the board to secure the victory and hand the Great Danes their first loss of the season.

Stanford weathered a challenging start in which Albany held advantages in shots (7-0) and penalty corners (2-0) in the first 14 minutes. Davies made five of her 16 saves during the span.

After a Stanford timeout at 16:41, the Cardinal matched Albany with four shots apiece to close out the half.

Stanford was outshot 15-5 in the second half, but Davies came up big making nine saves – including six in the final 15 minutes.

Stanford will look to carry its momentum into next weekend as it continues NorPac play at home against Pacific on Oct. 4 and at UC Davis on Oct. 6.
