STANFORD, Calif.- Kelsey Harbin scored twice to cap a strong offensive effort as No. 12 Stanford earned a convincing 5-1 victory over No. 20 New Hampshire Friday night at the Varsity Turf.
After allowing a New Hampshire (0-3, 0-0 America East) goal less than two minutes into the game, Stanford (2-1, 0-0 NorPac) erupted for five unanswered goals and outshot the Wildcats 19-5.
Fran Tew delivered the first-half equalizer at 25:32 as she banked in a rebound off a penalty corner opportunity.
The Cardinal did not let up in the second half, recording four goals on six shots. Hope Burke struck first for the Cardinal, burying a shot from just outside the left post after receiving a crafty feed from Harbin.
Courtney Haldeman tapped in a hard cross from Elise Ogle at 51:42 to notch her first goal of the season and stretch the Cardinal’s lead to 3-1.
Less than five minutes later, Harbin tapped home her first score of the year, converting on a textbook penalty corner on a feed from Ogle and stop by Maddie Secco.
Stanford earned a penalty stroke in the 64th minute, which Harbin drilled into the right corner of the cage.
The Cardinal defense held strong and limited New Hampshire to five shots and two penalty corners. Dulcie Davies made three saves in net and earned her second win for the Cardinal.
Stanford will complete its four-game homestand on Sunday at 2 p.m. as it takes on VCU.
