STANFORD, Calif. – No. 11 Stanford field hockey defeated Pacific 3-0 Monday night to win its ninth consecutive match at the Varsity Turf and claim the NorPac West Division regular season championship.
It was the Cardinal’s (13-4, 4-1 NorPac) eighth shutout on the season and its 15th consecutive victory over Pacific (4-12, 2-3 NorPac).
On a night dedicated to Stanford’s four seniors, it was only fitting senior Elise Ogle scored the game-winner. Ogle tapped home a rebound at 1:27 after a penalty corner blast from Kelsey Harbin was saved by Pacific goalkeeper, Maggie Corder.
The Cardinal dominated the run of play in the first half, holding advantages in shots (9-3) and penalty corners (4-2) but was unable to extend its lead, due in part to four saves by Corder.
Stanford carried its momentum into the second half and added a second score in the 44th minute when Fran Tew received a pass at the top of the circle, made a move to her backhand and rifled a shot into the left side of the cage. It was Tew’s third goal in the past four games.
Alex McCawley tallied Stanford’s final goal of the night when she redirected a strong pass from Maddie Secco into the back of the cage. It was a well-earned score for the pair, which played a strong game and created multiple opportunities throughout the contest.
Though not called upon often, Dulcie Davies made big saves when needed to keep Stanford in command. Davies earned her eighth shutout on the season, finishing with four saves.
Stanford will close out its regular season Thursday at California at 3 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on the Pac-12 Networks.
