Cardinal Sweeps Wildcats

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 3 Stanford women’s volleyball team completed its 19th sweep of the season with a 25-21, 25-17, 27-25 decision at Arizona, Wednesday, at the McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. The Cardinal improves to 23-5 overall and 16-3 in the Pac-12, while the Wildcats fall to 19-12 overall and 9-10 in the Pac-12.

Arizona entered the match leading the Pac-12 in opponent hitting percentage (.168), but the Cardinal had different plans. Stanford hit .333 in the match, while holding the Wildcats to a .164 clip. The Cardinal finished with 10 team blocks on the night, marking the 16th time this season it has registered double-digit blocks.

Sophomore middle blocker Inky Ajanaku registered a season-high 15 kills on 23 attempts with just two errors to hit .565. She also tallied a match-high seven blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Brittany Howard added 10 kills and 11 digs for her sixth double-double of the year. Senior Rachel Williams recorded nine kills and seven digs, while sophomore Jordan Burgess finished with nine kills on a .421 hitting percentage to go with eight digs and tied her season-high with three blocks.

Junior libero Kyle Gilbert anchored the Cardinal defense with 19 digs. She has now tallied double-digit digs in 26 of 28 matches this season. Sophomore setter Madi Bugg finished with 44 assists, eight digs and four blocks for the Cardinal. Arizona junior Madi Kingdon led the Wildcats with 12 kills and 13 digs.

Stanford returns to The Farm to close out the regular season against rival California on Friday, Nov. 29. The match is Senior Night for the Cardinal and will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks at 6 p.m. PT.
