Bonanni Named Muscle Milk Athlete Of The Week

Sophomore Bret Bonanni of the Stanford men's water polo team was named Muscle Milk Athlete of the Week for the week of Nov. 24-Dec. 1.

The honor is the first of Bonanni's career and the second this season for the men's water polo team. Goalie Drew Holland earned the honor back on Oct. 21.

Bonanni scored a team-best 11 goals at the MPSF Tournament, helping lead the second-seeded Cardinal into the MPSF title game. He opened the weekend with five goals in Friday's quarterfinal win over Long Beach State, then scored three times in both Saturday's 11-10 semifinal win over UCLA and Sunday's title-game loss to USC.

The team's performance at the tournament helped earn it an at-large bid into this weekend's NCAA Men's Water Polo Championship at Avery Aquatic Center. The Cardinal earned the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Whittier College Thursday at 2:45 p.m.

Stanford (21-5) can advance to Saturday's semifinals to face No. 2 Pacific with a win Thursday.
