2010-11 Season (Senior): NCAA Champion in the 100 fly for the second time in his career, also winning the 200 IM, and was a part of the NCAA champion 200 free relay team for the third place Cardinal. Set the pool record in the 200 IM with a mark of 1:41.57 and swam 44.69 in the 100 fly... part of three All-American relay teams, swimming as a a part of the winning 200 free relay team which posted a time of 1:15.26, and was also part of the third place 400 medley relay squad and ninth place 400 free relay team... named the Pac-10's Swimmer of the Year and the Pac-10's Swimmer for the Month of February, leading the Cardinal to its 30th-straight Pac-10 title... winning the 100 fly (44.66) for the third time in his career as well as the 200 IM with a school-record time of 1:42.01 as one of five top-11 finishers in the event... also third in the 100 free (42.46) and Pac-10 runner-up relays in the 400 free relay, 400 medley relay and 200 free relay squads... during the dual season won six, taking home titles in the 100 free (Pacific), 200 free (Arizona), 200 IM (Cal), 100 fly (USC, Arizona, Pacific)... part of pool record setting 200 free relay team, leading off to a time of 1:19.30 at Avery Aquatics Center... finished season No. 1 nationally in the 100 fly and 200 IM and eighth in the 100 free.
2009-10 Season (Junior): Competed in the fall, before taking a leave of absence from the school in the spring... named collegeswimming.com's national swimmer of the weekon November 24, 2009 after winning three individual events over the three-day Toshiba Cup in Long Beach, winning his signature event, the 100 butterfly with a time of 46.31, as well as the 100 free (43.93) and 50 free (19.95). The junior also was a part of the meet-record setting 800 freestyle relay team (6:30.31), as well as the winning 400 medley relay (3:12.69) and 200 free relay (1:19.74) teams.
2008-09 Season (Sophomore): Earned All-America honors seven times in his second season, repeating in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 400 medley relay, and 200 and 400 freestyle relays... earned a certificate for the first time in the 100 and 800 freestyles... won the 100 butterfly at the NCAAs, setting an NCAA and American record in the short course... won the 100 butterfly for the second-straight year at the Pac-10 Championships, where he also set the American record, also taking home gold in the 200 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay... had the NCAA's best time in the 100 butterfly at 44.18, the fifth-fastest 200 freestyle time (1:32.71), and the seventh-best 100 freestyle (42.06)... established a new school-record in the 200 yard leg of the 4x200 relay, bolting to a time of 1:32.71 at the Pac-10 Championships... part of school-record setting 200 medley relay team that finished second at the Pac-10 Championships... second at the Pac-10, 200 freestyle relay that set a conference record (1:15.64) and was a second off the NCAA mark--team then broke the school-record (1:14.22), but finished second at the NCAAs to Auburn... shattered the Stanford and Pac-10 marks in the 100 butterfly at the Pac-10 Championships, racing to a 44.69 finish, just .12 away from the NCAA mark... part of school-record setting 400 medley relay at the Pac-10 Championships, as they were edged out by Cal in the Finals by three tenths of a second... was sixth in the 100 freestyle at the NCAAs.
2007-08 Season (Freshman): Named the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year after a great first season on The Farm...finished third in the 100 fly and 13th in the 50 free at the NCAA Championships...had the third-fastest time of any NCAA competitor, racing 43.36 at the NCAAs in the 100 butterfly... also competed in the 100 free at the NCAA Championships...member of the 400 medley relay that finished third and the 200 free, 400 free and 200 medley relays that finished fourth at the NCAA Championships...Pac-10 champion in the 100 fly as well as finishing third in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free...member of 200 free and 400 medley relays that were Pac-10 runners-up and the 200 medley and 400 free relays that finished third at the Pac-10 Championships.... his 50 time was 19.59, 20th best in the NCAA.
High School: Four-time Ohio state champion in the 100 free and the 100 fly...tied the high school national record in the 100 fly.
Personal: Management, science and engineering major...parents are Ron and Linda Staab...has two sisters, Hillary and Chelsea.
