STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford opened its 2014 home slate with a pair of wins Friday, knocking off Cal Poly and Bradley in the Stanford Nike Invitational.

Madi Schreyer (5-0) pitched a strong 7.0 innings against Cal Poly (3-4), allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two. Six Stanford (8-0) hitters tallied a hit and Kylie Sorenson led the team with two RBI.

After spotting two runs in the top of the first without allowing a hit, Stanford responded with a pair of runs in the first and second inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Cardinal added an insurance run in the third to stretch the lead to three.

Four Cardinal saw innings in the circle against Bradley (1-6) and Kayla Bonstrom (1-0) earned the first win of her collegiate career. Schreyer pitched the final 1.2 innings to earn the save.

The Cardinal rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead. It was the fourth time this season Stanford posted seven or more runs in an inning.

Sorenson and Jessica Plaza led Stanford with two hits apiece, while Erin Ashby knocked in a team-high two RBI.

After two perfect innings by Carley Hoover to start the contest, Erin Ashby and Bonstrom made their collegiate debuts in the circle. The duo allowed three runs in a combined 3.1 innings of work and pitched out of multiple jams to help Stanford maintain a healthy lead.

The Cardinal returns to action Saturday for a pair of games, beginning at 12:15 p.m. PT against Bradley, followed by a 4:45 p.m. matchup against Cal Poly.
