Stanford Takes Down No. 1

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 3 Stanford delivered a season-best team score to hand No. 1 Oklahoma its first loss of the season Friday at the Metroplex Challenge.

The Cardinal won five of six events to outscore Oklahoma, 445.150-442.400.

Stanford scored season-bests on floor (75.800), rings (75.550) and high bar (74.500), and tied its season high on pommel horse (72.750)

Akash Modi and Sean Senters scored collegiate bests of 15.150 on pommel horse and vault, respectively, to finish first in the events. Modi picked up a second individual victory on parallel bars with a 15.050.

The win comes a week after Stanford fell at Oklahoma, 447.700-437.250.

Stanford will have an extended break from collegiate competition with gymnasts heading to the Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas – a non-NCAA event used to determine U.S. Gymnastics national team members.

The Cardinal will return to action March 1 at home in the Collegiate Challenge. Stanford will take on California along with the collegiate national teams from Japan, Norway, Canada and Finland.
