Stanford Falls To Cal, 7-0

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 9 California downed No. 39 Stanford 7-0 on Saturday afternoon in a non-counting Pac-12 match at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Thanks to a pair of cancellations due to rain and a built-in break for doubles tournament competition, Stanford (3-2) was playing its only scheduled dual match over a 37-day stretch.

Ranked in the top-10 for the first time in two years, California (7-2) locked up the doubles point for a 1-0 lead with victories at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots.

Gregory Bayane put the Golden Bears in front 2-0 following a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Robert Stineman on court five.

Filip Bergevi defeated Trey Strobel 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 3 position, increasing California’s lead to 3-0.

Mads Engsted clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Yale Goldberg on court six.

The counting Pac-12 match is slated for April 19 in Berkeley.

After participating in the Pacific Coast Doubles tournament next week, Stanford returns to dual match play on Saturday, March 8, against Furman at 1 p.m.
