AUSTIN, Texas – Stanford exploded for four runs in the second inning and five in the sixth to beat Texas, 10-5, Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Cardinal finishes the series 1-2 after the game was shortened to eight innings in order to accommodate Stanford's travel plans.

Alex Blandino led the offensive attack with three hits, including a two-run home run the sixth. Wayne Taylor, Austin Slater and Brant Whiting also added two hits apiece. Taylor drove in three and Slater knocked home a pair of runs.

Chris Viall started and went 4.1 innings, while giving up four hits and one run. He worked quickly through the first four, before finding trouble in the ffifth.

After a triple, single and his third walk issued, John Hochstatter came in and worked Stanford out of the inning. Hochstatter eventually earned the win for his one inning pitched.

Stanford made things easier on its bullpen after the five-run sxith. Doubles from Taylor and Diekroeger, a single by Slater and Blandino's homer made it a 10-1 lead.

The Cardinal had previously plated four in the second thanks to two hits, two walks and two sac bunts. The inning was highlighted by a perfectly executed squeeze play by Drew Jackson to score Blandino and a three-run triple to deep right center by Taylor.

Texas rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Sam Lindquist and Tyler Thorne combined to finish the final 2.2 innings. The pair allowed five base runners (two hits and three walks) after Hochstatter allowed four runs with just one earned.

Stanford is back at Klein Field and Sunken Diamond Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. matchup against San Francisco.
