Huestis Named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

STANFORD, Calif.- Senior forward Josh Huestis of the men's basketball team has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Feb. 17-23.

It's the second career honor for Huestis and second for a Cardinal player this season after Chasson Randle received the weekly recognition back in November.

Huestis, who was also named Pac-12 Player of the Week, was instrumental in propelling Stanford (18-8, 9-5 Pac-12) to a homestand sweep of USC and UCLA, as the Cardinal has won five of its last six to move into a tie for third place in the conference standings.

A native of Great Falls, Mont., Huestis averaged 16.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks while shooting 50.0 percent overall (12-24) and 72.7 percent (8-11) from the free throw line.

In the 80-59 rout of USC, Huestis tallied three blocks to increase his career total to 169 and surpass the previous school record of 167 established by Tim Young (1994-99). Huestis’ record-breaking block came at the 18:08 mark of the second half, swatting a layup attempt from Strahinja Gavrilovic. He also scored 11 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds for his sixth double-double.

Two days later in an 83-74 upset of No. 23/25 UCLA, Huestis matched his career high with 22 points, to go along with six rebounds and five blocks.

A strong candidate for Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Huestis is averaging 11.3 points and a team-high 8.4 rebounds per game with 53 blocks.

Also Nominated: Krista Hardebeck (women's tennis), Megan Hansley (synchronized swimming), Kristian Ipsen (men's swimming and diving), Drew Jackson (baseball), Meg Lentz (lacrosse), Eric Mochalski (men's volleyball), Chiney Ogwumike (women's basketball), Patrick Rodgers (men's golf), Madi Schreyer (softball), Kristina Vaculik (women's gymnastics).
