WAIKOLOA, Hawaii – Stanford saw three players score in the red for the second straight day to finish tied for seventh at the Amer Ari Invitational. Patrick Rodgers (66), Cameron Wilson (70) and David Boote (71) each did the deed Saturday in the final round of the three-day event at the par-72 Waikoloa Kings’ Course.
The Cardinal began the tournament in 12th after one round, but rallied back for a top-10 finish to open the spring portion of the schedule. At 27-under (281-276-280, 837), Stanford tied with Georgia Tech, Texas and UCLA.
Oklahoma State won the event at 45-under, propelled by a 16-under by medalist Jordan Niebrugge.
“We hung in there today and moved a few spots on the leaderboard,” Knowles Family Director of Men’s Golf Conrad Ray said. “The competition was stiff, and there’s still plenty of work to do as we move towards the spring.
“It was neat to see Patrick Rodgers put together a solid round and for Cameron Wilson to be in contention again. The guys fought hard this week and are motivated to play well at The Prestige.”
The Cardinal gets back to action at The Prestige (Feb. 17-19) at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.
Wilson (67-65-70, 202, -14) was the clubhouse leader heading into the final round after coming through with a 65 on Friday, but settled for a 2-under 70 for a third-place finish.
Wilson was 2-under on the back nine and used an eagle on the par-5 second to steam to his showing. In three rounds, Wilson played the hole at 4-under.
Rodgers (69-70-66, 205, -11), who finished tied for seventh, was 3-under through his first 12 holes before pouring on a pair of birdies and one eagle prior to a bogey on his penultimate hole.
Rodgers and Wilson combined for 33 birdies and three eagles, accounting for such on one third of holes they played.
David Boote tied for 56th and was even heading into day three until posting a 1-under 71.
Viraat Badhwar was 1-over through four holes and got to 2-under with three straight birdies. He finished with a 73 and was 2-over for the tournament.

Maverick McNealy was 4-over for the tournament and shot 76 to close the event.
Not to be outdone, Jim Liu shaved 10 strokes off his previous round with a 2-under 70. Liu competed as an individual along with David Grimes, who shot a closing-round 78.
