Western Regional Champs

MESA, Ariz. – The Stanford synchronized swimming team placed first at the Western Regional, Sunday, in Mesa, Ariz. The Cardinal finished with 102 points, defeating the University of Arizona (83.0) and Arizona State (38.0).

Stanford finished first in all four events, while freshman Isabella Park won the A Figures with an 81.401.

Stanford won the team event with a 79.250. Representing the Cardinal were Carolyn Morrice, Marisa Tashima, Megan Hansley, Evelyna Wang, Minah Shah, Leigh Haldeman and Park.

Morrice, a sophomore won the solo swim with a 76.850. Arizona’s Alexa Stallworth turned in a 76.750, while teammate Lauren Meadows posted a 71.750.

In the duet, Stanford’s rookies Park and Tashima scored an 80.200. Hansley and Wang were the runners-up with a 76.650. Arizona’s Alissa Hatfield and Mataya Vanden Berge were third with a 72.050.

Park and Tashima were joined by Shah to win the trio with an 80.500. Hansley, Wang and Haldeman were second with a 78.400, while Arizona’s Stallworth, Meadows and Maggie Gauthier finished third with a 73.600.

Up next, Stanford will head to Oxford, Ohio for the 2014 U.S. Collegiate Nationals, March 20-22.
