SALT LAKE CITY- Stanford chalked up another quality road win on Friday afternoon, edging No. 52 Utah 4-3 in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.
The Cardinal (7-2, 1-0 Pac-12), which won at UNLV 4-3 on Wednesday, is navigating through a busy stretch that features four dual matches to be played over seven days.
Friday’s victory over Utah (12-4, 0-1 Pac-12) was the Cardinal’s third road victory of the year and second over a ranked opponent.
Stanford rallied to claim the doubles point for a 1-0 lead after Utah’s No. 1 team provided an early edge.
John Morrissey’s 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Slim Hamza at the top spot of the lineup extended Stanford’s lead to 2-0 before Alejandro Medinilla defeated Daniel Ho 6-2, 6-4 on court three.
A 6-4, 7-6 win from Trey Strobel at the No. 4 position put the Cardinal on the verge of clinching at 3-1.
After the Utes collected another point at the No. 5 spot, Robert Stineman made it official with a 7-5, 6-3 win on court six.
Stanford next travels to Arizona on Sunday for a 10 a.m. PT match.
