Stanford Hosts UC Davis

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford would draw closer to clinching a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament spot with a victory over UC Davis on Tuesday at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium in a 7 p.m. contest. The No. 13 Cardinal (10-2 overall, 4-1 MPSF) is coming off an impressive 15-7 victory over Oregon and has four games remaining in the regular season. Six of the MPSF’s teams qualify for the conference tournament and the Cardinal is on the verge of clinching a spot, but first must get past the Aggies (6-7, 1-5), a team that earned a stunning 15-14 overtime victory over the Cardinal last year in Davis.

Week in Review: Lucy Dikeou scored four goals to lead Stanford to a 15-7 road victory over Oregon, which came into the game without a loss in MPSF play. Adrienne Anderson did a superb job of marking Oregon’s Shannon Propst, who came into the game as one of the nation’s leading scorers. Propst was limited to two goals, and one was on a free position after being fouled by a different player. Hannah Farr had six draw controls for Stanford, which improved to 6-0 on the road.

Scoring Streak: Lucy Dikeou has scored 10 goals in her past three games. She has 11 in her previous eight games and she has scored at least a point in all 11 games that she has played. Dikeou’s streak:  four against Notre Dame, three against Denver, and four against Oregon. She did not play against Colorado.

The MPSF Race: At 4-1, Stanford is tied with Oregon for second place behind Denver (7-0). To earn the No. 1 seed in the six-team MPSF tournament, Stanford would need to win its final four regular-season games and require Denver to lose its last two – against visiting Cal on Friday and at Oregon on April 25. While one more victory may earn Stanford a spot in the MPSF tournament, two would clinch it.

Stanford in the Rankings:
IWLCA coaches: No. 13 (No. 12 last week)
Brine media poll: No. 9 (No. 9)
Lacrosse Magazine: No. 12 (No. 13)
Lax Power computer: No. 16 (No. 17)

Tuesday’s Opponent, UC Davis: The Aggies (6-7, 1-5) are coming off an 8-4 loss at Oregon on Sunday. The loss was the fourth consecutive for UC Davis, which takes on Stanford in the middle of a three-game-in-six-day stretch. Junior midfielder Elizabeth Landry is the team scoring leader with 34 goals, 12 assists, and 51 draw controls.

The Stanford-UC Davis Series: UC Davis broke a 19-game losing streak in the series when  the Aggies stunned Stanford last year, 15-14. Elizabeth Datino scored with 2.5 seconds left in overtime for the winner. It also was the first time UCD had ever beaten a team ranked in the IWLCA Top 20. Stanford has not lost at home to the Aggies since 1997 and holds a 23-4 overall series lead.
