Durham, N.H. – Alex McCawley scored twice and No. 12 Stanford earned its third shutout on the season, defeating Boston University 3-0 Friday at Memorial Field.
McCawley continued her hot offensive start to help the Cardinal (4-0, 0-0 NorPac) tally three or more goals for the third time in four games. It was another strong team performance by Stanford, holding advantages in shots (13-5) and penalty corners (8-2).
The Cardinal defense recorded its third shutout in four games and has not been scored on in over 185 minutes. Dulcie Davies made four saves to earn the 20th shutout of her collegiate career.
McCawley got Stanford on the board early with a hard shot at 3:23 that deflected off the Boston University goalkeeper and a defender before finding the back of the cage.
Boston University (1-2, 0-0 Patriot League) responded with pressure of its own, managing four shots in the half. Davies was up for the challenge, making three saves and keeping the Terriers off the board.
Despite being outshot 4-3 in the first half, Stanford had its opportunities and held a 4-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The Cardinal dominated the second half, posting a 10-1 shot advantage and 4-1 margin in penalty corners.
McCawley continued her strong offensive showing with her second goal of the game at 46:46 to give the Cardinal a 2-0 lead. It was McCawley’s team-leading fourth goal on the year.
Casey Deeds sealed the victory in the 64th minute with her first goal on the season.
Stanford will have a day off before taking on New Hampshire on Sunday at 9 a.m. (PT). Sunday’s game will be streamed online and live stats will be available.
