No. 3 Card Wins 10th Straight

STANFORD, Calif. -- No. 3 Stanford extended its field hockey winning streak to 10 while beating Cal, 4-0, on Friday afternoon.

Alex McCawley was credited for the first two goals, though the first was knocked in by a Cal defender only 1:48 into the game, to increase her season team-leading goal-scoring output to 14.

Stanford (16-1 overall) improved to 3-0 in the NorPac Conference while the Golden Bears fell to 7-8 and 2-2. It was Stanford's second victory in as many tries against Cal this season while the Cardinal continued to uphold its highest ranking in school history.

Stanford now is one victory away from tying its school record of 17 in a season, achieved in 2011 and 2009. The Cardinal concludes regular-season play on Oct. 31 against visiting UC Davis, before heading into the NorPac Tournament.

On the opening goal, McCawley took a pass from Kelsey Harbin and sent it toward the goal from the right side, only for a defender to flip it into the cage.

McCawley got her second when she tipped in a penalty corner at 32:19.

Maddie Secco redirected a cross from Fran Tew to give Stanford a 3-0 lead at 39:17 and Lauren Becker completed the scoring at 61:42.
