STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 1 Stanford women’s volleyball team improved to 27-0, 17-0 in the Pac-12 with a 25-23, 25-15, 25-18 win over No. 23 Utah, Friday, at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif. The Cardinal’s 27 wins to start the season ties a program record set in 1991.

Utah (16-12, 6-11 Pac-12) challenged Stanford in the opening set, hitting .209 and tying the score 15 times. However, the Cardinal sided out 82 percent of the time and posted a .359 attack percentage to carry the momentum for the rest of the match. Stanford finished with a .327 team hitting percentage and posted 8.0 team blocks. The Utes hit .117 and finished with 6.0 blocks.

Senior opposite Morgan Boukather, a human biology major from Newport Beach, Calif., led the team with 13 kills on a .440 hitting percentage. She also collected eight digs and three blocks. Junior middle blocker Inky Ajanaku added 10 kills on .444 hitting and two blocks. Junior Jordan Burgess finished with 10 kills and six digs.

Junior setter Madi Bugg controlled the offense with 37 assists, while recording five kills on eight errorless attempts. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Merete Lutz added five kills and a match-high six blocks. Senior libero Kyle Gilbert had 13 digs, marking the 27th time she has reached double-digits this season.

Utah senior outside hitter Chelsey Schofield had eight kills and 15 digs to lead the Utes, while senior opposite Shelby Dalton posted seven kills and three blocks.

Stanford plays its final regular season home match on Saturday, Nov. 22 as it hosts No. 19 Colorado at 7 p.m. PT. Boukather and Gilbert will be honored prior to the match during the Senior Night ceremony.
