PHILADELPHIA – No. 13 Stanford improved its event scores in successive rotations to earn a 195.950-189.575 victory Sunday at Penn.

The Cardinal (2-3-1, 0-1 Pac-12) punctuated its win in the final rotation on bars with a 49.475 – the team’s highest score in the event since Jan. 19, 2007, against Arizona State (49.575).

Stanford outscored Penn in all four events and Cardinal gymnasts swept top-three finishes in three of four events. Three Stanford gymnasts combined for five individual event victories.

Ivana Hong continued to provide consistency, earning the individual victory on beam (9.900) and tying for the individual win on bars with a career-best 9.950.

Price remained unbeaten individually this season, tying for individual victories on bars (9.950) and vault (9.925). She has tied or claimed individual wins in all five events she has competed in this season.

Taylor Rice earned the second all-around victory on the season with a career-best 39.375. She finished first on floor (9.875) and placed third on bars (9.900) and beam (9.800). Rice’s 9.900 on bars is a career best.

Stanford faced adversity during the first rotation on beam with two gymnasts missing their routines. Strong scores by Hong (9.900), Becky Wing (9.850) and Rice (9.800) helped balance the lineup and give the Cardinal a 48.450-47.425 advantage to open the competition.

Stanford continued to build momentum on floor, paced by Rice’s 9.875. Pauline Hanset also had a strong performance, posting a 9.800 to finish third.

The Cardinal showcased its talent on vault with all five gymnasts in the lineup scoring 9.800 or higher. Nicolette McNair tied her collegiate best off 9.925 to tie Price for the individual victory. Danielle McNair produced a 9.875 to finish third, while Hanset and Rice earned scores of 9.800 to tie for fourth.

Stanford provided the exclamation point of the victory in its final rotation on bars with a 49.475. Hong and Price registered career bests of 9.950 to tie for the individual victory. Rice scored a career-high 9.900 to place third, followed by Samantha Shapiro (9.850), Wing (9.825) and Nicolette McNair (9.825).

Bridgeport was scheduled to compete but was unable to make it to the arena due to icy conditions on roads on the East coast.

Stanford will look to carry its momentum into its next meet, when the Cardinal opens its home schedule Monday, Jan. 26, against Oregon State in Maples Pavilion.
