SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 13 Stanford men’s volleyball team fell 25-14, 25-20, 25-19 on the road at No. 8 UC Santa Barbara, Saturday, at Rob Gym in Santa Barbara, Calif. The Cardinal drops to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while the Gauchos improve to 6-4 on the season and 2-4 in the conference.

UC Santa Barbara posted a .440 team hitting percentage, while holding Stanford to a .207 clip. The Cardinal managed to side out at just a 56 percent rate and was hurt by 15 attack errors.

"I think we had some opportunities tonight," said ninth-year head coach John Kosty. " UCSB is a good team that played tough and we were just never able to get over the hump."

Junior setter James Shaw ran the offense, collecting 27 assists to go with three kills and four digs. Junior outside hitter Madison Hayden tied his career high with 10 kills and had five digs. Redshirt senior Daniel Tublin added eight kills and two digs.

"I thought Madison played well," added Kosty. " He bounced back nicely for us. He passed well and gave us what we needed from that part of his game."

Stanford middle blockers Conrad Kaminski and Spencer Haly each tallied four kills, while Kaminski also notched three blocks. Redshirt senior libero Grant Delgado had a team-high six digs.

"We have to keep getting better and be patient. The wins will come. We just have to find ourselves and build upon that," said Kosty.

UC Santa Barbara’s Jacob Delson and Kevin Donohue each recorded 11 kills and hit over .380 to lead the Gauchos. Setter Jonah Seif finished with 32 assists.

Stanford continues its six-match road swing next week at No. 5 Pepperdine. The Cardinal will take on the Waves on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. in Malibu, Calif.
