STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford wrestler Ryan Davies was voted the #GoStanford Student-Athlete of the Week for his comeback win at Boise State on his 21st birthday.
Davies, a computer science major from Clovis, Calif., capped off a comeback for the Cardinal which gave the team an 18-17 dual-meet victory on Feb. 1.
The redshirt sophomore 184-pounder trailed Boise State's Xavier Callejas 4-3 heading into the final period of his match. Callejas chose to start in the neutral position allowing Davies the opportunity to score a takedown and three near fall points to seal the win.
Davies is the fourth Cardinal wrestler to be recognized this season, joining Evan Silver (Nov. 10), Nathan Butler (Nov. 16) and Jim Wilson (Jan. 13). The four winners are the most by the wrestling program in one season since the award started in 2006-07.
Stanford wraps-up the home portion of its schedule on Sunday, Feb. 8. The Cardinal plays host to San Francisco State at 2 p.m. PT in Burnham Pavilion. Stanford's three seniors, Jordan Bryan, Josh Lauderdale and Garrett Schaner, will be recognized before the dual.
