IRVINE, Calif. – The Stanford men’s volleyball team dropped a 25-15, 25-23, 25-11 decision at No. 5 UC Irvine, Friday, in Irvine, California. The Cardinal falls to 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, while the Anteaters improve to 12-3 and 7-2 in the conference.

Stanford (.136) was outhit for the fifth straight match as UC Irvine turned in a .432 team attack percentage. Redshirt freshman opposite Clay Jones was the lone Cardinal to hit over .200 on the night, finishing 6-2-12 (.333).

Freshman setter Kyle Dagostino finished with 25 assists and five digs for the Cardinal. Redshirt senior Daniel Tublin totaled a team-high nine kills, four digs and two blocks. Junior Madison Hayden added eight kills, two digs and an ace.

Junior middle blocker Conrad Kaminski was held to just four kills on a .167 hitting percentage. Freshman Evan Enriques and redshirt senior Grant Delgado shared time at libero.

After UC Irvine hit .682 in the opening set, the Cardinal found a way to slow down the Anteaters in the second. Stanford outhit UCI .258 to .242 in the second set, but came up just short. The third set was all Anteaters, posting a .474 team attack percentage while the Cardinal hit negative .042.

UC Irvine was led by Tamir Hershko’s 16 kills on .429 hitting. Kyle Russell added 11 kills on a .421 attack percentage, while Zack La Cavera and Jason Agopian tallied four blocks apiece.

Up next, Stanford takes on UC San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. PT in San Diego. It marks the sixth straight road match for the Cardinal.
