Weekend Results from Texas

STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford synchronized swimming team was in San Antonio, Texas over the weekend, first for a two-day meet against Lindenwood and host Incarnate Word on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14 followed by a technical competition with the Cardinals on Sunday, Feb. 15.

Five of Stanford's six swimmers in San Antonio were freshmen representing the Cardinal for the first time.

Stanford finished third in the team competition. Lindenwood came in first with 100 points followed by UIW with 81 points and the Cardinal with 54.

The Cardinal did not have entries in the solo or team routines. Freshmen Claire McGovern, Sandra Ortellado and Erica Slavin finished third in a six-team field in the trio with 79.2667 points. Stanford junior Evelyna Wang along with freshmen Rina Horii and Shiree Lee formed another squad which put up a score of 78.7667 and came in fifth.

Wang and Horii also competed in the duet together for the first time and scored 79.7000, good for fourth among seven entries.

On Sunday, Stanford and Incarnate Word sent swimmers out in three divisions to compete in figures, with Incarnate Word coming out on top, 28-22, at the Barshop Natatorium.

Cardinal freshman Erica Slavin won the A Elements with a 78.4688 while Clare McGoven was runner up posting a 77.6875. Evelyna Wang finished fifth (76.4514) and Sandra Ortellado ninth (74.8716).

Stanford also claimed also claimed two of the top three spots in the B Figures. Shiree Lee won the competition with a 76.2132 and Rina Horii came in third with a 73.4714. The Cardinal did not compete in the C Figures.

Congratulations to these ladies on an awesome weekend of competition at University of the Incarnate Word! For 5 of these 6 this was their first competition representing the Cardinal. Back to the grind tomorrow to get ready for our home meet this weekend!! #fiercefreshmen #gocard #gostanford

The team returns to The Farm this coming weekend when it hosts Lindenwood at Avery Aquatic Center from Feb. 20-22. Friday features only technical competition beginning at 4:30 p.m. Routine competition begins at noon on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.
