CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Stanford split a pair of contests Saturday at the Mary Nutter Classic, defeating Oklahoma State 4-0 and falling to Fresno State 13-8.

A strong performance by Madi Schreyer in the circle and timely hitting propelled Stanford to a 4-0 victory against Oklahoma State on Saturday at the Mary Nutter Classic.

Schreyer (3-1) went a season-long 6.0 innings, racking up a season-best seven strikeouts and permitting just five hits and one walk. She recorded six of her seven strikeouts in the first three innings.

Jessica Plaza and Kayla Bonstrom paced the Cardinal (9-5) offensively, registering two RBIs apiece. Plaza got the Cardinal going with RBI-singles in the first and third innings. She is averaging nearly one RBI per game.

Bonstrom hammered her team-leading third home run on the season in the fifth inning to extend Stanford’s lead to 4-0. It was a deep shot to right-center field that landed well past the outfield fence. Bonstrom has registered at least one hit in 9-of-11 games.

Stanford jumped out to an early lead when Bonstrom hit a two-out double down the left field line and was brought home on an RBI-single by Plaza.

Plaza came through again in the third inning with her second RBI-single on the day, bringing home Tylyn Wells who had singled earlier in the inning.

With six strikeouts under her belt already and armed with a two-run lead, Schreyer continued to deal and let her defense work. She limited Oklahoma State (3-7) to four hits and one walk during her final three innings in the circle.

Bonstrom provided extra breathing room for the Cardinal in the fifth inning with a booming two-run home run to extend Stanford’s lead to 4-0.

Haley Snyder took over at pitcher in the seventh inning and forced a pair of ground balls and a flyout to secure the victory.

Stanford and Fresno State combined for 30 hits as the Cardinal dropped the slugfest 13-8.

The Cardinal contributed a balanced offense with seven players registering at least one hit. Kayla Bonstrom (4-for-5), Erin Ashby (3-for-4) and Cassandra Roulund (3-for-4) paced the attack, each registering multi-hit games. Bonstrom led the team with three RBIs.

Haley Snyder (6-5) battled in the circle for 6.1 innings and recorded a career-high six strikeouts. She permitted Fresno State (9-4) 11 earned runs on 16 hits and seven walks.

The Bulldogs were aggressive early, attacking pitches and taking extra bases when possible during the first inning. Fresno State was rewarded with three runs and the early lead.

After the Bulldogs extended their lead to 5-0, Stanford cut into the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third. The gap was extended in the following half inning when Fresno State added to two runs to retake a five-run advantage.

The Cardinal rallied for three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-5. The Bulldogs again responded in the top of the following inning with an identical amount of runs to retake a five-run lead.

Fresno State added three runs in the top of the seventh to extend its cushion. Stanford continued to battle and put together a nice rally in the final stanza to score three runs and cut the lead to 13-8.

The late rally proved too little, too late and the Bulldogs were able to secure the outs needed to seal the victory.

The Cardinal will look to close out the Mary Nutter Classic Sunday with a pair of victories as it takes on Texas A&M (11:30 a.m. PT) and San Diego State (2 p.m.).
