STANFORD, Calif. - No. 37 Stanford picked up its fifth straight victory, blanking Hawai’i 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
Entering a stretch that features three matches played over five days, Stanford (6-2) captured the doubles point with ease and followed with straight-set victories throughout the lineup.
Hawai’i (3-4) dropped its third match in a row but was playing for the first time since Jan. 31.
Coming off its biggest win of the season in a 4-3 upset at No. 14 California, Stanford took control early and coasted.
After wrapping up the doubles point for a 1-0 lead, rookies David Wilczynski and David Hsu surrendered only seven games combined in putting the Cardinal on the brink of clinching.
Competing in his first career dual match, Brandon Sutter secured the win after defeating Marcel Chan 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot in the lineup.
Stanford faces its most difficult challenge of the season this weekend, traveling to No. 1 USC (Friday, 1 p.m. PT) and No. 21 UCLA (Saturday, 1 p.m. PT). The match against the Trojans will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
