Going The Distance

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - No. 8 Stanford defeated No. 19 Notre Dame on Friday afternoon, highlighted by three-set victories from its top three players.

Playing its first road match of the season, the Cardinal (3-0) secured a tight doubles point and stormed its way to five singles wins.

Stanford was able to grab an early lead following a 7-6 (4) triumph from its No. 2 doubles team of Caroline Doyle and Ellen Tsay after the first two matches split.

Notre Dame (2-2) evened the match following a 6-2, 7-5 victory from Mary Closs at the No. 4 spot.

Leading 3-1, Caroline Doyle rallied past Julie Vrabel 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 3 position to clinch the match. Carol Zhao and Taylor Davidson also recorded three-set wins.

Lindsey Kostas collected her first dual match win since 2013 when she edged Jane Fennelly 7-5, 7-5 on court six.

Stanford wraps up its Midwest swing with a neutral-site match against No. 31 Ohio State on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 a.m. PT.
