TUCSON, Ariz. – The Stanford synchronized swimming team placed first at the Western Regional on Saturday, March 7 in Tucson, Ariz. The Cardinal finished with 98 points, defeating Arizona (81.0) and Arizona State (40.0).

Stanford won each event in which it competed and also had the top finishers in A elements and B figures

The Cardinal duo of Katie Gu and Erica Slavin won the duet with a score of 84.5333. Clare McGovern and Sandra Ortellado finished second (83.8667) and Isabella Park and Marisa Tashima third (83.4333).

Stanford again took the top three spots in the trio led by Clare McGovern, Sandra Ortellado and Erica Slavin (83.0333). Evelyna Wang, Rina Horii and Shiree Lee were 1.1000 points behind in second place (81.9333) and Katie Gu, Isabella Park and Marisa Tashima came in third (80.7333).

The Cardinal received 18 points for its win in the team swim and cruised to the title without an entry in the solo swim.

McGovern won the A elements with an 82.2534 and Lee won the B figures with a 72.7117.

Stanford began its trip to the desert on Friday, March 6 in Tempe, Ariz. with a competition against the Synchro Devils. In a solely elements and figures event, the Cardinal came away with a 22.0 to 8.0 victory. McGovern again took the A elements with a score of 80.4305 and Lee was victorious in the B figures with a mark of 74.2943.

The weekend wrapped with a meet on Sunday, March 8 against the Splashcats and Synchro Devils in Tucson, Ariz. As in their Western Regional competition the day before, Stanford beat both Arizona (41.0) and Arizona State (32.0) after finishing with a 99.0 points.

Isabella Park and Marisa Tashima won the duet (86.5667), Clare McGovern, Sanra Ortellado and Erica Slavin completed a perfect weekend in the trio (86.2333) and the Cardinal’s team swim score of 86.9333 topped Arizona’s 76.0667.

Up next, Stanford will head to Columbus, Ohio from March 25-28 for the 2015 Collegiate National Championships.
