STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford men’s volleyball regular season is coming to a close as the Cardinal hosts UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, April 18 at 5:30 p.m. It marks the final home match for the five Stanford seniors, who will be recognized with a Senior Night ceremony following the match.
GoStanford.com will highlight each senior this week leading up to the match on Saturday. The third senior is middle blocker turned setter Sean Kemper.
A native of San Diego, California, Kemper will graduate this June with a degree in computer science. He came to The Farm as a middle blocker, but has transitioned into a back-up setter this season. He has appeared in 32 sets and garnered his first collegiate start on Feb. 28.
GoStanford: Looking back, what are some of your favorite memories with Stanford volleyball?
SK: My favorite memory was definitely the Europe Trip after my freshman year to Italy, France, and Spain with the entire team. Highlights include hiking the Cinqueterre and being in Barcelona for an FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid soccer match.
GoStanford: What do you know now that you wish you knew as a freshman?
SK: How much fun setting is. I would've pitched the idea to Kosty much earlier!
GoStanford: What do you think you will miss most about this team?
SK: My teammates for sure. Even though we undoubtedly spend way too much time together, I'll definitely miss seeing these guys every day.
GoStanford: Off the court, what has been the best thing you have experienced at Stanford?
SK: This spring break I was given the opportunity to travel to Munich, Germany to present my senior project to the employees and executives at two different BMW Technology offices. I got to explore a new city and see FC Bayern Munich upset at their home stadium for the first time in 13 months. It was an incredible experience that I am so glad I was able to make happen.
GoStanford: What has been your favorite class at Stanford and why?
SK: My favorite class at Stanford was CS 210: Software Project Experience with Corporate Partners. Students are split up into teams and paired up with a corporate partner to complete tasks seeded from their R&D departments. It's an awesome class that really captures what Stanford is all about and was how I was able to travel to Munich, which I mentioned earlier.
GoStanford: What will you miss most about being a college student?
SK: I'll miss being able to plan my own schedule and having all of my friends in the same place. I definitely won't miss the homework!
GoStanford: What are your plans for after graduation?
SK: After graduation, I'll be working at Groupon in Palo Alto as a Software Development Engineer.
