STANFORD, Calif. -- The Stanford baseball team and California will decide its 2015 season series Tuesday at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. The teams, which meet at 6 p.m. PT on Pac-12 Networks, have split their first four meetings.
Stanford (16-21, 4-11 Pac-12) has won or tied six straight season series over the Bears, dating back to 2008. The Cardinal already own the Pac-12 Conference series win, but dropped a non-conference game to California in February.
A trip to Berkeley gave Stanford its first two Pac-12 wins of the year two weekends ago. Zach Hoffpauir went off for three home runs in the 2-1 series win to earn Pac-12 Player of the Week honors.
No. 16 California (23-13, 10-8 Pac-12) dropped its second straight series last weekend when No. 2 UCLA rebounded from a 2-0 defeat on Thursday to take the Friday and Saturday games. The Bears have lost seven of their last 10 after a 20-6 start, the program’s best beginning since its 2011 College World Series team.
Chris Castellanos (1-0, 5.06 ERA), who is coming off one of the best outings of his career, gets the start for Stanford. The lefty threw 4.1 innings in relief without allowing a hit against Utah Friday to pick up his first win of the season.
Righty Jeff Bain (4-1, 2.18 ERA) is slated to start for California.
Stanford hosts UCLA Friday-Sunday with all three games on television. Pac-12 Networks has the Friday and Sunday broadcasts, while ESPNU will carry Saturday’s game.
