REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – No. 12 Stanford was dealt a pair of losses to No. 8 Boston University in an early evening dual at Redwood Shores, marking the home opener for the Cardinal.
"We came away happy with where we are at and faced some tough conditions," said head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "We need to keep developingand continue to take positive steps forward."
For the second straight year Stanford hosted night racing at Redwood Shores, allowing the Cardinal student-athletes to attend morning classes, race in the early evening and have the weekend off during the racing season.
The one drawback to racing in the evening is the rougher conditions on the water. A strong crosswind made the times for each team a little slower on Friday night.
The Boston University varsity eight put together a strong race to win by open water over Stanford’s top boat. The Terriers posted a time of 6:01.70, while the Cardinal followed about eight seconds behind with a time of 6:09.46.
The second race of the evening was the 2V8. The Terriers again came out on top by an eight-second margin as Stanford finished with a time of 6:23.81.
The Cardinal will be back at Redwood Shores next weekend when they host the Stanford Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Stanford will race No. 1 Washington at 9:10 a.m. on Saturday to start the weekend.
