STANFORD, Calif. -- The Stanford baseball team topped San Francisco 6-5 Tuesday night in a slugfest at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond. The teams combined for five home runs, the most at the park in 2015, including a three-run go-ahead blast by Zach Hoffpauir in the seventh.
Stanford (22-28) played its final nonconference game of the season ahead of this weekend’s series against Oregon State. The Cardinal finished 15-11 outside the Pac-12.
Hoffpauir’s shot to center field, a part of the ballpark that rarely sees homers, came on a 1-0 hanging curveball that the junior right fielder got all of. He followed Tommy Edman and Alex Dunlap, who hit solo homers in the fourth and fifth, respectively.
Stanford tied its season high with three home runs. The Cardinal last hit three in one game at Cal State Fullerton Feb. 22.
San Francisco (23-28) had rallied to build a 5-3 lead by scoring in four straight innings starting in the fourth. Brendan Hendriks and Michael Eaton powered the advantage with dingers to their respective pull sides.
Tyler Thorne (4-0) earned the win in relief. He allowed two earned runs on four hits in 2.0 innings after freshman lefty Andrew Summerville allowed two runs on four hits, while striking out seven during the first five innings.
Gabe Cramer allowed only one base runner in 2.0 innings to get his third save.
Logan West (1-2) took the loss. His only run allowed was on Hoffpauir’s homer, before he stayed in to go 2.0 innings and finish the game for USF.
The Cardinal hosts Oregon State this weekend for three games starting Friday. The opener of the series is Fireworks Night.
