NEWPORT, R.I. - No. 9 Stanford endured an up-and-down day at the Sperry Women’s Sailing National Championships today, where it sits in eighth place midway through the finals. 
 
The first of three titles to be awarded at the ICSA National Championship, the women’s field was cut to 18 after two days of semifinal action on Monday and Tuesday. Stanford, who finished third in the west regional semifinal, was back on the water today in the finals. 
 
Sophomore skipper Lily Katz resumed her role as Stanford’s A-division skipper, with Kennedy Placek and Haley Fox serving as crews. Over nine races, the Cardinal A-unit racked up a 74-point total, good enough for eighth place in the division.
 
In the B-division, Maeve White and Julia Lambert shared skipper duties while Grace Lucas and Alex Archer served as crews. The Cardinal B-squad highlighted wednesday with a win in its third contest of the day, but finished with 75 points in ninth place in the division. 
 
Ahead of the final day of racing tomorrow, Stanford trails first-place No. 4 Boston College by 35 points. Live coverage will be available for the duration of the ICSA National Championship at collegesailing.com
