Final Four in Sight

No. 3 Stanford progressed to the round of eight at the Laserperformance Sailing Team Race Nationals today and currently sits in third with one day left in the competition.

Needing a strong finish to the 16-team round-robin early in the day, the Cardinal recorded vital wins over No. 2 Boston College and No. 4 Charleston. Stanford’s big victories vaulted it into second on the leaderboard heading into the round of eight, trailing only top-ranked Yale.

Stanford began the second round with a victory over No. 5 Georgetown, but stumbled to losses against Charleston, Boston College, and No. 7 Tufts to finish Saturday.

Tomorrow morning, the 14-5 Cardinal will face No. 6 St. Mary’s College of Maryland, No. 8 Roger Williams University, and Yale, who leads the field with a 17-1 mark. Boston College holds second place with a 15-4 record, and Charleston sits in fourth at 13-5.

Stanford’s lineup remained unchanged from yesterday. Seniors Kieran Chung and Hans Henken and Junior Antoine Screve skippered the Cardinal boats, with senior Haley Kirk and sophomores Nikki Obel, and John Cannistraro serving as crews.
